Here is to crisply pressed carousing and neatly folded opulence.
My Thirty dollar decision for May was easy, I went to The Laundry Room. This is an amazing speakeasy style bar that is hidden inside the Commonwealth in Downtown Las Vegas, on Fremont Street. Unless you have heard of The Laundry Room by word of mouth, you wouldn't even know it existed. The secret entrance is very well hidden and the only way to gain access and enjoy this quiet and wonderful bar is by texting a special phone number with your name and what time you would like to come. Here is a hint, if you find a clothes pin you are in luck!
Normally when I go downtown on Fremont Street I enjoy the $1.75 microbrews as Main Street Station, or the $2.00 Coronas at the Fremont Casino, But never would I spend $15 on a drink. So that is why I made The Laundry Room my thirty dollar decision for the month of May.
I sent a text to the secret phone number with my reservation for 8pm. At eight I was promptly escorted to a hidden back room inside the Commonwealth to The Laundry Room. The atmosphere was very relaxing and quiet. Seating is limited to about 20 people at a time. The Laundry Room is a very special place, so they do have rules.
Some of the rules include:
Every drink at The Laundry Room is fifteen dollars. So I had two.
I wanted to try something I never had before, so my first drink was a Rum Swizzle. This drink consisted of Cruzan Single Barrel Run, lemon, orange, pineapple, John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum, Angostura Aromatic Bitters and an orange slice. This drink was very smooth and tasty. It was not overpowering by alcohol or by juice. A really good pick.
For my second drink, I asked the amazing bartender/cocktail creator Juyoung to pick one out for me. She is very knowledgeable in her drinks and many other things. Unlike most men, I enjoy listening to women talk, and I spent at least an hour and a half chatting with Juyoung. At one point she was talking about drinks with egg in them. I mentioned that I never heard of an alcoholic beverage with egg in it, so she suggested that I try a Clover Club. It is a cocktail consisting of gin, lemon juice, pomegranate syrup, and an egg white. I found the drink to be very sweet, but still very good. Couldn't taste any egg in it at all.
I have to say, I enjoyed my time at The Laundry Room. I would normally never spend $30 on two drinks, but this time I did and I had a great time doing it. What an amazing experience and one that I would definitely do again!
